Dated 8th May 2001 Surrey Coaching Report After the success of the coaching workshop and seminar held at the Guildford Judo Club on the 25th February, I organised a coaching course for preliminary coaches, Club, and Senior.Club Coaches. The course took place on the 22nd/29th April with 21 judoka's taking part the three level's of coaching awards where ran simultaneous, even though much of the course was not required for the preliminary coaching award those taking part all felt it was of benefit, and to know what would be required of them to progress to the next step. With the changes in the coaching requirements for the First aid section the first aid Questionnaire is no longer required to be completed, but all coaches must have a valid first aid certificate, therefore all those taking part in the course who didn't have one will be coming to a full days first aid course which will be held at the Guildford Judo Club in the near future. I would like to thank Derek and Sarah Hopkins for once again helping with the Kata section, which they also did on the coaching seminar demonstrating Nage-No-Kata and Katame-No-Kata, Also many thanks to Derek Piers Hampshire County Coach who came along to help me with the marking on the 29th April. Well done and congratulations to although who took part in the course it was a lot of hard work in two long and tiring days I would like to take this opportunity to remind all coaches the importance of making sure your coaching award is up to date and that you have attended the relevant number of re-validation events, this is for your own safety and protection as a coach, if your coaching award has expired and you are still coaching you are not covered by the B.J.A. insurance. As there seems to be no complete list of coaches within the Surrey area I will be sending all the B.J.A. registered clubs in Surrey a form to complete asking them to list the names of the coaches registered at there club so I can keep you all informed of any course's being organised and any changes to the coaching syllabus. I now have an E-mail address so if any one wishes to contact me by E-mail I, am on surreyjudocoach@aol.com or Tel/Fax:01329665142 Stephen Ellis
