Guildford JC & Surrey Police JCThere have been several issues that recently have arisen at Guildford Judo Club which have placed them in jeopardy of folding after 38 years. Should this happen, no judo would be available in the area for juniors and as a County we would lose a permanent dojo. Personally, I feel very strongly that a long standing club such as Guildford should be given every opportunity to continue. After some discussions, agreement has been reached that the Surrey Police JC will move training venues to be based at the Guildford JC site. This will take place from the 1st April 2004. The SPJC will continue to train under its own name and on a Wednesday evening, just from a different site. The benefits that result from this move are

New Rules for the Millennium LeagueIMPORTANT CHANGE OF ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR MILLENNIUM LEAGUE 2004. AT A RECENT COUNTY COMMITTEE MEETING THE RULES GOVERNING THE MILLENNIUM LEAGUE WERE DISCUSSED. IT WAS FELT THAT THE MAIN AIM OF THE COMPETITION “JUDO DEVELOPMENT” WAS NOT WORKING AS EXPECTED. IT WAS THEREFORE AGREED THAT THE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO BE LOOKED AT, AS IT WAS APPARENT THAT SOME PLAYERS WERE NOT DEVELOPING, AS WE WOULD HAVE EXPECTED. THE FOLLOWING WILL BECOME PART OF THE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FROM 2004. “ALL PLAYERS ENTERING THE MILLENNIUM LEAGUE MUST HAVE GRADED DURING THE PREVIOUS 12 MONTHS” PLEASE ALSO BRING TO THE ATTENTION OF ALL PARENTS/GUARDIANS THAT BY SIGNING THE ENTRY FORM THEY HAVE AGREED THAT PHOTOS/VIDEOS MAY BE TAKEN OF THEIR CHILD DURING CONTESTS AND MEDAL CEREMONIES. (THIS IS NOW A REQUIREMENT UNDER THE BJA CHILD PROTECTION POLICY) AS WITH 2003 ADDITIONAL POINTS CAN BE CLAIMED BY NEW VOLUNTEERS. (VOLUNTEERS ARE REQUIRED FOR TABLE WORK TIME KEEPING /SCORING AND MEDICAL (IF QUALIFIED) 5 POINTS PER PERSON PLUS BONUS 5 POINTS IF THEY ATTEND ALL THREE EVENTS. MAXIMUM OF TWO PEOPLE PER CLUB PER EVENT. PLEASE REPORT TO EITHER GRAHAM BEAGLEY OR JOHN BUSHNELL AT THE START OF THE EVENTS |
